Supporting the integration of the 'Internet of things'
The future of manufacturing will probably lie with the 'intenet of things' and the capability of manufacturing companies to maximise the collection and analysis of data on their production as well as monitoring customer demand using cloud computing and connectivity technologies.
It will put customer demand, production and supplier data in context at a rate that is faster and more accessible. This in tturn will lead to lower costs, increased efficiency and faster response times. If the British companies can maximise this then they can continue to maintain a competitive advantage in the years to come.
The technology is emergent and I think Government needs to support (whether in funding or through policy) its development. It needs to help manufacturing companies take advantage of the technology.
Why the contribution is important
It's the future of manufacturing. We need to help British companies take advantage of it as quickly as possible to ensure their remain competitive and stay ahead of the game.
